Acupuncture for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 9, this year of 2021. How wonderful to have a day set aside to honor all mothers! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
The mother energy is yin, and the father energy is yang in the ancient Chinese philosophy of yin-yang. Yin and yang are the idea of opposites. Yin energy is female, soft, and supports function in comparison to yang energy which is male, active, and supports structure. In our modern world, people too often burn their yang without nurturing their yin and end up stressed out with health imbalances.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has at its roots the philosophy of yin and yang. The diagnosis within TCM is based on patterns that are categorized according to the relationship of yin and yang within the body. When the opposite expression of the yin and yang energies within the body interact in a balanced way, good health can be enjoyed. When there is an imbalance of the yin and yang energy, for example too much activity and not enough rest, the body suffers.

Acupuncture is Preventive Medicine

I think we all know someone, or it is even ourselves, who lives by the idea, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” This concept may be prudent when putting off replacing the many gadgets, tools and equipment in our life, however, this philosophy does not apply when one desires to enjoy best health. To prevent illness, one can stay on top of best health practices and nip a problem in the bud when it first starts to present with preventative medicine. Acupuncture care which includes herbs, nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, is preventative medicine and a wonderful way to solve health issues before they become illnesses and disease patterns. continue reading
Acupuncture for Anger Management
Anger is the emotion associated with springtime in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). For most of us, we consider anger a bad emotion, something to avoid or get rid of, so why would it be one that TCM would shine a light on? Well, no emotion is inherently good or bad, it’s how we deal with challenging emotions that can end up hurting ourselves or those we love. continue reading
Regrowth: Spring and Traditional Chinese Medicine
Spring is a time when the natural world begins bursting with new life and new growth. The philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) includes living in harmony with the seasons. Each season in TCM is associated with one of the five elements: wood, water, earth, fire and metal. Springtime is associated with the wood element, connecting us to the new growth. continue reading
Acupuncture for Diabetes

More than 34 million Americans have diabetes, and approximately 90 percent of them have type 2 diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Type 2 diabetes, while its exact cause is unknown, develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin or the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin. Because of this, treatment often involves taking “insulin sensitizers” or medication that helps the body increase its sensitivity and therefore ability to process insulin, keeping the blood sugar from getting too low. Unfortunately, this medication often causes side effects, including weight gain and anemia. continue reading
