In the early 1980’s, acupuncture became a focused treatment for addressing drug and alcohol addictions at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx of New York City. The Lincoln Recovery Center has given more than 800,000 acupuncture treatments in the past 34 years. 
In 2006, the Center for Substance Abuse highlights the use of acupuncture in its best practice guidelines for the treatment of addictions.
